Tribes & Nations

Campers are assigned to a "tribe" with 8 to 12 other campers and a caring counselor. The counselor will help each camper set and achieve their individual goals during their camp session.

Each "tribe" is a part of a grade-specific unit, or "nation," to promote spirit and friendly competition. Counselors and tribe activities are supervised closely by "nation chiefs," who are experienced veteran staff.

Buckaroo Nation — Rising 1st Grade
Braves Nation — Rising 2nd and 3rd Grades
Warrior Nation — Rising 4th and 5th Grades
Thunderbird Nation — Rising 6th, 7th and 8th Grades

Lead by Example
A well-trained, enthusiastic staff is the key to a positive camp experience. Camp Widjiwagan counselors are chosen for their maturity, skills, patience, enthusiasm and desire to be good role models for children. The staff undergoes extensive professional training that emphasizes safety, child growth and development, teaching methods and group dynamics. At Camp Widjiwagan, we make the health and safety of each camper our prime concern. Counselors are trained in safety, first aid and CPR, and place heavy emphasis on accident prevention by supervising all activities closely.
