Camp Staff: Seasonal Employment Opportunities
Working on summer camp staff is more than a summer job; it is an investment in the lives of youth and children of Nashville and Middle Tennessee, as well as yourself. You may just be looking for a fun way to spend your summer, but you realize the memories and friendships that you make will last a lifetime. Summer camp staff members are more than just friends and teachers, they are role models that will help shape and mold the minds of the campers that they encounter. Now hiring summer 2008 camp staff! Summer Seasonal Positions
 Counselor with kids
The following are descriptions of the summer seasonal positions. Each position is listed along with a brief description of the position. Minimum preferred requirements for each position are also listed. First Aid and CPR are required for all positions.

· Camp Counselor
The Camp Counselor is considered to be one of the most important positions at Camp Widjiwagan. The Camp Counselor is the key to the overall success of the summer camp program. The Camp Counselor's duties are to maintain the safety and supervise their "tribe" of 10 campers. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: guiding the camper’s character development, teaching skill development in an Adventure Series or Specialty School, participating in camp family night programs, correspondence home to the parents of your campers, serve as a bus counselor, serving as a an appropriate role model for all campers, and representing yourself, Camp Widjiwagan, and the YMCA of Middle Tennessee in a positive manner. All Camp Counselors must be 18 years of age have experience with leadership and/or working with children.

· Program Staff
Program staff members provide programming support in the specialized areas of camp such as aquatics, ropes course, and equestrian. Program staff positions may require additional experiences and training. Program staff duties include the duties of the Camp Counselor, but program staff members will not have a tribe that they supervise. Program staff will work with the Camp Counselors to supervise the campers at their specific program areas.

· Aquatic Staff
Aquatic Staff at Camp Widjiwagan is more that just a lifeguard. Aquatic staff responsibilities include supervision of all camp aquatic activities. These activities include swim instruction, canoe and kayak instruction, water-ski instruction, banana-boating, pontoon boating, and proper water slide technique. All aquatic staff members must have lifeguard certification from either the American Red Cross or YMCA before reporting to staff training. Boat driving, trailering, and canoe experience is helpful, but not required.

· Ropes Staff
The Ropes Staff at Camp Widjiwagan supervise and facilitate all of the challenge course elements at Camp Widjiwagan. These activities include our Alpine Tower, Giant Swing, Zip Line, High Ropes Course, Pamper Pole, Mt. Widji Team Climb, Ground Initiatives, and Archery. Climbing and Archery experience is helpful, but not required.

· Equestrian Staff
Our Equestrian Staff provide instruction in private and in group riding. Equestrian Staff are also responsible for the maintenance of the barn, tack and herd. Previous riding experience is required, and previous teaching experience is helpful. CHA certification is helpful, but is not required.

· Administration Staff
The following positions will serve as part of the Administrative Staff that is responsible for the overall operation and administration of the summer camp program.

· Nation Chiefs
The Nation Director will provide leadership to the staff and campers within their particular Nation. The Nation Director directly supervises, evaluates, and trains the counselors within their Nation. The Nation Director is responsible for maintaining the overall safety and welfare of the campers in their Nation including camper discipline, programming, health, and safety. Nation directors must fulfill the requirements of the Camp Counselor and have previous camp experience and leadership experience.
